Only a couple of months. I’ve been working on building up my savings this year, but it has been one setback after another.
Conversation Starter
I've only recently been able to afford to put money away to save. I desperately need a new car so it's all going to go on that. I literally spend all my wages every month.
I could get by for 3-4 months. It wouldn't be comfortable though, and I'd be relying heavily on credit cards. I'm trying to save more to give myself more of a cushion if I were to lose my job, but it's so hard when the cost of just about everything has skyrocketed over the past few years.

Completely understand. 3-4 months sounds responsible, but you’re right—it’s hard to feel secure when costs keep rising. The cushion goal is real, and it’s tough to get there.
I’d be lucky to get through a month without tapping into credit cards or 401k.
I know I should have more in an emergency fund, but having been at my company over 15 years and seeing how hard it is to fire anyone, I feel extremely safe in my job.

So many of us feel that same pressure, even in HR where we talk about financial wellness. Thanks for starting this conversation.

Probably 3 months without making any changes. But it this happened I’d be cutting all additional expenses that I don’t need and also negotiating my student loan payments.
