If you were harassed / experienced abusive behavior at your firm, have recorded and email evidence of the abuse, and are leaving the firm because of that person’s actions, would you pass that evidence to the HR department at your exit interview?

I went through something similar years ago. HR is there to protect the company not the people. If you have evidence file with EEOC, Labor Board and get an employment lawyer. The abuser most likely will not suffer anything but the company will pay you for that suffering

I think it depends. I worked for someone who was a POS and surely everyone had to know. The last 5 associates she ran out gave detailed exit interviews. I declined to do one bc eff them.

They promoted her to OMP as soon as I left. Sometimes the behavior is rewarded. It was an AM50.

Good luck on finding greener pastures! I found mine and hope you do too.

If the partner is a rainmaker or maintains an efficient firm at lower costs, do not bother.

Get a lawyer. I’m going through something similar for sex discrimination and unlawful termination. I got a lawyer. Many employment lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, so you don’t lose anything, but it’s in their interest to settle well!

We continue to use the term "toxic" in describing our occupation (which is true), but it will take those in the partner ranks to make permanent changes.

like

Nope. But would pass it to an employment attorney. Why do people think HR cares?

People talk. You have to decide if you want to get into that mix, or just keep on keeping on with your career. I'm not saying one way or the other, but you'll have to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.

I agree. I’m not going to go down this road. The experience has forced me out of my comfort zone and pushed me towards better opportunities so really a blessing. Sometimes the worst thing you can do to someone is just let them live and suffer with the consequences of their own choices. Others have complained about this person to HR and the firm will be stuck with this turd of a human stinking up their culture while hard working, high billers like myself head for the door.

I’d be taking it to a lawyer. 😂 they’ll settle. You need compensation for the abuse. Obviously, you would never want this to go to court.

likesmart

“Obviously” they’d pay for it not to 🤣

You should just ignore any advice you get from anybody on this app EXCEPT THIS: get a damn lawyer and listen to their advice.

Your call: but please check your state’s laws on recording people without their knowledge before you admit to HR that you did that. In CA for example, that is illegal and I believe there are some serious negative repercussions for it. There may even be federal laws on that, I’m not sure because I’ve only ever practiced in CA, and our law could just be more restrictive/harsh than the federal.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
