New Orleans is great if committed to flying. If want to drive, Austin is number 1 (can fly there too). New Orleans has a bit more history and amazing, unique creole/Cajun food. Austin will have Texas bbq and Tex-mex but can get that in Dallas, too. Both have a nightlife with live music but Austin will be country and New Orleans will be more jazz. I’d pick New Orleans because it is more unique both either of those are great and better than other options IMO.

Sorry, but you’ve seen what there is to see. Add another day or 2 and go to Cancun.
Try the stockyards in Fort Worth while you’re in the Dallas area. If you were coming sometime in January or very early Feb you could catch the stock show and rodeo.
I shouldn’t be far from there and will check it out again. Thanks.
Maybe Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Great food and art scene, hiking and spas, and a nuclear energy museum too! While I haven’t been to Arkansas, I hear that Little Rock has good museums too including Clinton presidential library and lots of art bought by the Walton family. Memphis or Nashville for music. These are all 2-3 hr flights, I’m thinking.
Thanks, these are promising options that would allow me to see somewhere new.
I had wanted to save New Mexico for a whole separate trip, but flying to one of the cities now would allow me to take a shorter trip later.
I’m intentionally waiting on Nashville, but Memphis works if I can see the Grizzlies play. I could drive this and include a night in Little Rock.
Pro
I agree with Santa Fe. Hot Springs AR is also really pretty. And Tulsa has a lot of impactful historical spots and good food. Kansas City is also nice. I would have to really think about 4 full days in any of those spots besides Santa Fe.

Ok, if you’re looking for off the beaten path options, then take a flight to Cleveland, OH. Lodging will also be cheap. Rock Hall, great food scene, basketball, (maybe) football, theater, museums. Metroparks for amazing hiking. Hit up the Goodtime for a River/lake cruise.
I still stand by going to Mexico.
I was trying to see if I could go to Mexico, but not Cancun or Mexico City. It was a great suggestion and I’m going to monitor flights and see what comes up.
Cleveland is 5 hrs from Toronto. I’ll probably go in the Fall to catch the games. It is great - really enjoyed it when I went before. Your suggestions are helpful as I hadn’t considered the hiking or a lake cruise there.
