I'm a business partner & I support a field-based sales team. I'm invited to attend a big trade show in our industry next week to meet some of our people who work remotely & to understand our business/industry a bit more. I'm very excited to go, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to DO for 3 days. I'm hoping to find someone to show me around & do some networking with our team who will be there but I'm a little nervous about it. Has anyone ever been to an event like this & have any advice?

Have you set up a networking event for the first day so you can meet and greet. Then plan to meet up with people during the next two days. Who is running the booth, what is the booth schedule.
Get the agenda for the trade show and make sure you visit your booth and your competitors to understand the market (and possible meet candidate for open positions in the future). ensure you bring lots of business cards and remember you are being asked to come because people interaction is important and you are important in your role.

Coming here to say teh same - you're really just trying to meet as many people as possible and get a better understanding of the industry, specific challenges and gain more context on the roles and responsibilities

Focus more on networking on the first day. Develop a strategy to include as many people as you can. Analyse competitor booths and promote yourself and your company as much as possible. Best to give away some company merchandise as well.

Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

I am a career changer on mo 4 of a 6 mo sourcer/researcher contract that I’m not sure will be renewed due to team re-organizing. I have 5 YOE basically in an HR generalist role at a company that didn’t have an official HR function, building systems from the ground up. I also have my SHRM-CP. I am looking for a perm, remote HR generalist or program manager position and getting no traction despite a well-reviewed resume. What do I do? Should I go to grad school?

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

I received my PHR certification in September 2020 and sitting for my SHRM-CP in two weeks. I’m having a hard time transitioning into a full Generalist position.
