Skadden friends — potential lateral and heard that the tech/software is way worse than other peer firms (e.g., takes a century to run a redline and that you have to use Citrix at all times and not just when remotely logging in). Kinda surprised to hear it tbh. What’s the deal with being so behind the curve / is it really that bad? Can you guys use iPads for markups and to connect to your DMS, etc.?

In a similar situation. Asking for about a 10% signing bonus since oddly enough, it’s a slight pay cut for me. V10 firms haven’t really faced a negative impact financially in this climate so I don’t think it’s unreasonable. Of course, have a strong reason for why you are asking, and not “just because”.
Also, while I’d love to get the signing bonus, my accepting or rejecting the offer isn’t contingent on it. Other factors play a more important role.
Ask, they won't pull the offer and anyone who actively thinks less of you for it is probably going to think of some BS to think less of you anyway. The decision makers at the firm understand its a business and worst case scenario they say no.
Plus aren't mid-level and senior corp associates kind of a hot commodity?
Sure, and don’t forget ask for a make-whole on year-end bonus. I got 55k and a make-whole around this time last year as a 6th year and didn’t really even have to negotiate. Firms desperately need mids. If they want you, they’ll do something.
For context, consider that second-years from a district court clerkship routinely get 50k. You’re way more valuable.
I wish I’d asked you before! I asked for like 20k as a 5th year lateraling into v10... should have checked with the bowl 🤦🏻♀️
