I’m a rapidly rising young equity partner in a top 10 firm. I need to find someone that can provide thoughtful / useful advice on work/career stuff that isn’t at my firm but appreciates the nuances of the situations I am dealing with. Unfortunately, outside people at or closely connected to my firm, because I’m young and meaningfully ahead of my peers that made partner in similar firms, I don’t have connections with anyone that fits this role. Any thoughts on how to build these connections?

Got an email from someone who is supposedly wanting to hire my firm, but a few things are giving me pause: 1) I’m a rising third year, so idk why they are emailing me, 2) it just says “dear attorney” then the short message, not my name (though practice group is correct), 3) it is from a gmail email address, not the company.
