I’m a senior manager that doesn’t see myself being a partner at my current firm but I do want to be partner somewhere eventually. I’m unsure when to make the move, where to look, how long it will take to find the right role. If anyone has tips I would appreciate them!

If you really want to move, the sooner the better. You have to have a strong book of business, good network, and known by the right person to be promoted to partner. It's hard to make a lateral move as a senior manager and break in to build those things, it will take a long time. If you have the opportunity to make partner at your current firm, I would do it there. Later down the road, if you still want to move, you'd be moving as a partner.

BT took PE money? Didn’t their managing partner recently say they had no interest in doing that?

Have you tried talking to the partners at your firm about it? If they can make a path for you that will take 2-3-4 years to get there, that may be sooner and safer than the path if you go somewhere else. There’s also comfort in a place you know you fit in and people like you.

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
