McKinsey & Company I’m about to start at McKinsey & Company and I got an email telling me to apply for my corporate card. I can get an Amex green for free, but can upgrade to the platinum for a fee. I was thinking about upgrading it to max out points, but then I read that I can’t use the corporate card for personal expenses. I’m responsible for the card & payments, so can I use it for personal and only submit reimbursements for work charges? And do you get to keep the points on a corporate card? TIA!

Better to take a hotel card or a card like Chase Sapphire Reserve (in the US) and get more points. Assuming you can pay for hotels using personal card as per your region policy.

@ McK1– I’m in the US. Would it make sense to just get the basic Amex green through corporate and pay for the Chase Sapphire out of pocket? I should be able to put business expenses on the Sapphire and just submit for reimbursement, right? I’m stuck on the infamous debate between the Chase Sapphire vs Amex Plat

like

Thank you, @ McK4! Will DM as soon as I get the feature 🥲

Don’t upgrade bc you can’t use it for personal expenses. You can get a discount on a personal Amex card with your corp card

I use the Marriott Bonvoy card and I’m drowning in hotel points. Others prefer the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

When I make EM and start picking up the tab for team dinners I’m planning to upgrade to Amex Platinum. Right now it’s not worth it, but if I’m regularly dropping hundreds of dollars on meals and team events that’d be a different story.

@ BCG1– good call, that’s what i was thinking. thanks!

@ McK2– does it make sense to get a card that helps me max out travel points right now? Or should I just stick with using the company Amex green?

Welcome to the team btw, what role are you starting off with?

@ McK3– thank you!! BA in PDP :-)

I would like to hit fire between 40-50. Currently 27, 185k total comp (125 for me and 60 for partner). Like my job don’t hate it don’t love it. Does an MBA make sense? I’m guessing it could take me to 170ish with that schools I’m looking at but wondering if the 40-50 retirement range makes an mba not make sense since I’d only have 10-20 years to save vs 12-22.

Would have to finance the whole thing myself. Current net worth is 140k. Thoughts?

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

I have joined a company on 4th Feb, through consultancy on contract to hire basis.
I only received the job offer letter from the consultancy, but no Appointment Letter is given yet.
So since it's 10-15 day, since I joined. Can I leave this company, since I've got a better offer, with my suitable location.
PS: I have also received the laptop, but didn't login or do anything yet.
Please help me, can I still leave the company? And return the laptop to them. Or I have to continue here itself?

Just graduated with Aerospace Engineering degree. I am interviewing for multiple positions at once with different companies. One gave me an offer and they want me to get back to them within 2 days. I still have other interviews scheduled and some for higher paying jobs (around 90k) What should I do?
I do like the company that gave me an offer but their base pay was 80k and they went up to 85k. Is asking for them to match the 90k too much? The position is associate systems engineer.

Just wanted to brag a little. This may not be much for some but I’m super excited. I graduated with a B.A in chemistry July 2022 and I start my job this Monday with a salary of 60K! This is the most money I’ve ever made 😱😱. Really proud of myself even though I know some people would rather make more. I’m hoping to hit 100K within 3-4 years. Don’t give up recent grads!!
