I’m about to walk away from a $20k retention bonus because the environment has become so toxic I can’t last another month. No amount of money is worth the Sunday Scaries I’m getting every single week. Have you ever reached a point where the salary just wasn't enough to justify the mental toll?

I wouldn't walk away unless you have a year's worth of expenses saved up that you are willing to burn through, or another role already lined up.

Being stress-free will be great for the first month or so, and then as you start seeing ylur savings dwindle while getting minimal traction in the job search you might start wishing you still had that job to deal with.

Toxicity only denigrates people. Business does not happen with people. People always need to be treated with dignity and respect. There’s always tension in business; good tension and bad tension. Good tension is always works, bad tension is acceptable if you have support in working through challenges; however, no one wins in toxic situations, not even those who think they have the upper hand. Be wise and perhaps find another job, but know money doesn’t solve any level of toxicity. Your value will prove so much more where you are appreciated, even if you make a little less, but can look yourself in the eye because you are true to yourself and true principles of doing good business with others.

It’s worth it to walk away from toxic stress. Money is not worth the mental stress. My family is so happy I quit my toxic work environment. I was anticipating quitting so I saved up over 6 months so I can enjoy summer with the kids.

If you’re gonna walk away, then just become complacent and go through motions til you get the bonus lol.

Just stop trying so hard

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?

I had two recruiters today reschedule a meeting. And this is the second time rescheduling. Honesty, not sure what value recruiters bring. Is this common now? Is it hard to have respect for people’s time and their schedule? Reschedule once I can understand. But twice is just stupidity. I hope AI wipes out all bad recruiters who don’t give af. Sorry for the vent. Maybe it’s just my bad luck then.

I work in commercial real estate retail leasing. Current employer just increased base to $100k with avg. 20-35% bonus/commissions combined. Received offer to exclusively work for a tenant and help them open new locations. $115k base 10% bonus & also stock options. Remote work, lots of driving, similar job title. Its a VC funded startup & aggressively growing. I’ve never worked for a start up, so curious what everyone’s experiences are and any feedback would be super appreciated thank you!!

I feel like I've been lowballed, can someone explain the below breakdown please?

Base salary: 60k
Quarterly quota (per quarter): 107k
Quarterly bonus (per annum): 23k
130% Annual bonus = 11.5k
"23% commission on quota minus base": 37k (don't understand this)
"Proposed 23% commission on 150% quota minus base": 86.5k
Sales commission threshold per month: 22k
OTE: 122k
Cost/Sales: 28%

That base salary is lower than my previous base by a significant amount by 32.7%

If your workplace does not formally set guidelines or expectation for conversations about wages, then what is an appropriate time to present a case for a raise?
