I think an unfortunate reality of getting to this point in your life is realizing you can't do it all. It's ok to miss things if they don't make financial sense.
I'm in the same spot. I've already got three weddings and a handful of bachelor/friend trips on the schedule for the year. I use Google flights to try to find and lock in cheap airfare whenever possible and use Honey/Rakuten to save and get cashback on online purchases, but that only seems to go so far.
A travel mileage credit card might be helpful. As long as you pay it off every month and run all your expenses through it you can get free trips. Chase Sapphire is a good starter one.
I have a decent travel card but willing to upgrade to something better, just not sure what. Any recommendations for something a bit more?
Shop at three different grocery stores. That's how I save so much money. I go between Aldi, Costco, and publix, and it works out so well. Food is definitely one of the biggest expenses for me.
Is there anything you can make on your own and give as a gift? Maybe you could refurbish something and make it look expensive? LIke find a cheap piece of furniture at a thrift store and repaint it?
Act extremely busy and learn to say no :)
It might be a good idea to set limits on how many big events you go to every year. Trips are expensive when you consider all the related expenses. Go all out on the ones you can go to, but limit your potential spending by not going to them all. Might help a little bit.
How do you say yes to one friend and then no to another though.. especially in the same group?
Make a budget. Use coupons where you can. Stay away from destination weddings as much as you can as they're a huge expense. And make the gifts, whether they are personalized collage of each couple or a hand-made wallet or purse (there are leather kits you can buy, dye, and stitch together in a day or two). And if your friends do not appreciate the time and effort that went into the hand-made or upcycled gift, then they are not true friends.
While you can be happy and celebrate your friends, don’t go broke trying to do so. Give and set aside what you can and don’t go over spending amounts you’ll regret later. You don’t need to explain your financial situation to them while giving them what you can. If they raise an eyebrow at you, that’s them.
Make your gifts thoughtful and not ridiculously cheap and they will be appreciated more than a fancy, expensive gift.
So for all the baby showers I go to I make a baby blanket. I learned how to crochet as a teen so that’s my way of sharing my craft/talent and the family gets something that is custom and handmade. It ends up costing about $20 and 3-4 weeks of my time. Families love it. So that leaves the budget for wedding gifts larger. The flip side is my husband is a wood worker so he can make wedding gifts on the cheap. I think the last wedding we went to my husband made a really nice butcher block cutting board out of scraps from other projects.
