I'm convinced that over half of the job postings on LinkedIn are fake. Especially local ads that are reposted over and over without any updates. I’ve even clicked links that just loop back to the company home page. It feels like a total waste of my time because it’s obvious they aren't actually hiring anyone. Is this all show for firms to look busy, or am I missing something?

There are been articles about ghost jobs published within the last year or two. A lot of companies will post jobs they aren't really hiring for, and the reasons can vary. It's usually because they think it's good PR. Your instinct is correct, they think it makes them look like they've got so much going on they're always hiring.

You are not alone in that thinking. I have been thinking the same thing as I have been applying for jobs lately. I never hear anything back from any of the LinkedIn jobs that I apply for. I don't even get a rejection, I just don't hear back.

100%. You mean to tell me you can’t find someone for an entry level job for a half a year?

I have noticed that most of the jobs I click on are already expired as well. Mostly on Indeed.

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both
KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞

been in industry (small companies) for 5 years with an active CPA. Wanted to get in SEC reporting roles but almost every company requires 2-year public accounting exp. Now applying for public accounting firms entry level positions but almost all firms HR asked if I had ever worked in firms. Got rejection emails from firms all the time. Is this a dead lock? firms exp matters much more than a CPA license?

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
