Think about going in-house. It's not easy for a litigator, but it does happen. I was miserable in BigLaw and, in-house, I am less miserable now!
SCC1 - this seems like the move. It’s just finding that company, and that role, that’s the hard part.
Stack your coins and retire early
As delightful as this sounds, it’s beyond impractical.
Maybe consider transitioning to a transactional practice? I have a few friends and classmates who did this and they all became much happier after the switch.
Aren’t there plenty of folks who hate transactional work, too? Even if this were possible (I’m not convinced that, at this stage in my career it is), I’m not sure that it’ll move the needle. If someone hates cheese, substituting cheddar for provolone doesn’t solve the problem.
Very common and you are not alone. What could you see yourself doing in the law (or otherwise)? Spending too much time doing what you don’t love is not recommended (I am at this 23 years and finally found some passion again in writing, coaching and speaking).
I think that’s my problem - I don’t know. I enjoy the business aspects (managing, not developing). Beyond that, the profession, at least in private practice, in my opinion, isn’t going to work as a long-term solution.
I have a multitude of hobbies but no idea how to take them from hobby to job.
