Stay as SM for a year and exit at Sr Dir/ VP level.
SM seems really shitty if you don’t think you will make PMD
D3 -"influence for the better the lives of others”...where can I get some of that Koolaid? Clearly you’ve never done cost reduction work.
Every SM I know is miserable compared to their worst years as junior staff - if you aren't going for PPMD, it's like volunteering for 3 years of hazing just for funsies.
SM is a tough role, lots of travel and pressure. Do you want to do that?
If package is same, I would move to industry as D
Lots of travel I’ve been doing for the last 10 years :-) the work that I put in the last one year to get to SM was also backbreaking. The role that I’m getting in the industry is not easy and has medium level traveling as well. It might end up in a little better worklife balance because of (no offense) no offshore
Since when do SM talk to offshore ?
^ I know plenty that do
I would stay as SM. Yes, you are looking at 4-5 hard years. But if you think you could make P/MD and you like business development, it’s a great proposition. Income of 400k to start with possibility of 1.2-1.4M. Autonomy and running your own book of business, ability to lead teams and influence for the better the lives of others - if you are a good leader. Variety of work and challenges. And great exits later on if you chose to.
However if you think you won’t like P/MD or low chances to make it, now it's a great time to exit.
Run! Go take the offer
D3 - where did you get your starting number of 400k for a PMD? I know a few first year Ds who are around $250k
Deloitte has a step above SM but below Partner?
C1 - deloitte has Partners, Principals and Directors. Both Partners (generally holds a CPA) and Principals are shareholders. Directors are not shareholder, they are employees, but have similar roles/responsibilities regarding sales, leading engagements, etc., this a Director is not “between” SM and Partner/Principals
Boomerang. I’d go and keep a foot in to come back...
Kepner Trego analysis
Thanks for the replies y’all. SC1-Boomerang only works once. Will work on the KT analysis though, that’s a good idea. And let you guys know what I decide
If you’re getting equity take the industry job now. It’s a wealth building tool that 3-5 years at SM won’t equal. Besides all the wear and tear on your life.
