I'm in CA. Got laid off a month ago so now I'm technically on "website time" but still legally an employee of the firm. I'm doing my CTAPP annual reporting and realized my bar dues haven't been paid yet. Do you think my firm will pay these since I'm still legally their employee? My termination / "transition letter" doesn't say anything about it. I'm worried about the dues not getting paid and it affecting my ability to get a new job.

Ask your employer. And if they don’t, pay out of pocket.

like

Can’t hurt to ask. Worst case scenario they just say “no.”

like

Second this. I know someone who asked and the firm covered it. But they asked while negotiating their exit. Good luck!

No lol. You need to pay them.

like

Isn’t it only like $100?

like

Ah, didn’t realize it’s that much! If it were me, I’d ask, but I don’t have inside knowledge for you. Good luck!

I don’t see a need to “worry”. Ask and if they say no as a biglaw associate you can surely afford $600.

like

Just adding that my firm pays the dues literally on the last day before the deadline.

They paid, woohooo

Hi all -
Sorry for the long rant, but could use advice or just encouragement.

Got laid off for the first time in my career 3 weeks ago. I have 10 years of PM experience (mostly ecommerce & experimentation). I was fortunate in the past to have had recruiters scout me directly so this is the first time in over a decade that I am applying to everything that I’m qualified for, mostly qualified for, and way over qualified for with zero leads. Only 3 interviews thus far that didn’t go forward.
