Dont be dumb, fake it til you make it
A four-step guide to faking it as a director:
Step 1) Hire consulting firm
Step 2) Micro-manage, aggressively, while providing little actual direction.
Step 3) Find a typo on slide 39 of appendix. Exploit
Step 4) Repeat until people take you seriously
It’s easy to feel that way but I often look at people who have the jobs they have and think...how the hell did this happen!?! And never let the company be aware of your insecurities.
Hold on, director in different firms might mean diff things. Ask them about their org chart, their expectations from you before you get so nervous. Titles are misleading at times.
EY2 wtf?
If you get the role, you can always get an exec coach to help you out
I see a lot of faking. Making, not so much.
5 years out of undergrad in a director role @ $4B dollar company. The beginning was rough, but winning cures all of that.
They know you’re young, but clearly you’ve demonstrated other aspects they think are valuable. Sell that -if you still want the role of course-.
I know a SM in Deloitte who did that. He was a SC when he left one big firm to join as Director in some small firm stayed there for an year and joined D as SM.
EY2 that was not nice to talk about female like that.
Fake it until you make it...seems a common advice I’ve received so far in my career 🤭
You must be female. Guys do not underestimate their abilities. Women unfortunately do. Cone on—-take the job!!!! You’ll be awesome and you’ll look back on this someday and realize you are a competent, talented professional who can learn quickly and continue to grow
Sounds like EY 2 is a little insecure himself with that comment
You will be fine! Gotta push urself out of ur comfort zone!
I'll go out on a limb and say you probably will just need to sharpen up your management skills, the actual work shouldn't be too challenging. Titles vary but I was in line for a director role with 4 years exp post UG at a F100 before leaving for consulting.
Don’t disqualify yourself. It’s their job to disqualify you if you’re not who they’re looking for. Give it your best and let the rest unfold
A bit of both. Be confident in your abilities and make them aware of your strengths. Do let them know your excited for the role and interested in taking on the responsibility that comes with it
I’m female. I’ve managed women and men throughout my career. My comment was based on my experience. I’m not trying to be mean—I’m trying to help this person who I strongly suspect is a woman
Why did you apply ? What attracts you to the position ?
