If you think it suits you I would advise you learn the basics of extraction, filtration and distillation of cannabis oils. Look for positions at a cannabis processor rather than a grow facility or dispensary. The pay is usually much better and you will learn a lot very quickly as most labs need all the help they can get.
I'm with ya, I'm looking for long-term success in Colorado cannabis. It appears that owners, investors, and general managers are capitalizing on cheap labor, because any 21 yr old kid can get the employee license and they love to mop the floor and trim weed for minimum wage.. haha, that being said; Technology is allowing for automation that allows for essentially sealed rooms. Grow room doors opened half a dozen times for the entire flowering cycle. Even though I have some serious experience and knowledge in the Industry, I'm a middle aged family man and I need a partnership or respectable salary (50k minimum) in order to give all my energy to a grow facility. Anyway, just adding my 2 cents. I have an employee badge and I don't work in cannabis. I work at a metal shop because they offer full time hours, overtime and benefits. I'm using a perspective of don't make it happen, let it happen. I tried making it happen and I never got more the 16$ hr, lmfao, and I have a decade of experience growing.
Consulting or design, and engineering, architecture, and HVAC along with the contractors required to develop a firm that builds cannabis horticultural facilities! "Weed farm construction" I think the big money will be in this realm, globally, in the near future. I'm in Colorado Springs, always willing to meet up and talk about any opportunities available !
My advice: don’t. When even those of us with years of veteran level management experience in the industry can’t find work, it’s pretty clear this is not the most opportune time to transition into cannabis. Youre doing the right thing by researching the current state of the job market; keep checking in, and pay attention to any changes in state regs… there are usually a bunch of opportunities when a state goes rec.
This.
