I’m looking to make a career change and have been exploring my options. I see possibilities both within my current company, moving to a different division, and at other companies in new positions. I was wondering: which is generally easier, moving to a different division within the same company or switching to a new company? What are the pros and cons of each option?

Id only switch companies if there is a big pay differential or you’re moving to an employer with brand name recognition. Otherwise switching departments is the easier option.

Try to stay in the same company and switch your role to whatever you’re interested and comfortable with, Stay in that position for few months and apply for better opportunities

Normally I'd say it's about a toss up. In this market, I would assume it's easier to move internally than externally. There just aren't many jobs available right now on the open market. All companies are different, so that might not be the case for you, but based on what I've seen during my job searching, I'm inclined to think it'd be a lot easier changing teams/departments than it would be to change companies.

I would definitely consider an internal change first. You have built enough trust at the company, they’re stable. You don’t know what you’re getting into when you hop companies

Good luck on your career change!

And I told her this is like living together from a distance, because I put her on the house speakers. What can I do to keep her engaged?

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.
