Unfortunately people who aren't confident in their abilities, for example some recent graduates (I was one of them), are convinced that employers have the power because they are in need of a job. After working for a few year, I realised that they need my skills as much as I need them to pay me. The way I used to prepare for interviews is completely different than my current method and what makes the difference is CONFIDENCE!
I have ended interviews where I was the candidate, and I could see the position was not going to be a good fit. Each time, I let the interviewer finish their sentence, and said, “I appreciate the time you have put into talking with me today. I think this would not be a good fit, and so I am withdrawing. I wish you the best, and hope you get the best candidate.”
Def and you need to confirm if an environment is toxic. Meaning do they value the interview process as far as communication? At least with a followup. What’s their views on WLB? Even if they try and play it off. I watch their faces when mentioned. Why is the role open? Is the company expanding. If it’s not a new role. What happened to the last person? Once you get to the second round. I then go on Glassdoor & pay attention to feedback with the same red flags 🚩. It’s also the climate more ppl are laid off than roles. Companies can be extra selective unfortunately.
What does it matter what others think? Bottom line is the you need to take advantage of all opportunities to know and understand if it is a job opportunity you are interested it. Your goal is always to get the offer so you are in control of the outcome.
