live with your parents until you save & make enough to afford stuff
Uhh made 81k last year. Have 1 kid. No debt. We travel and have status with Delta, eat out 1-2 times a month (occasional pick-up from restaurants), we spend about $150-200 in groceries a week cause we choose to get high quality items and I have 10% in IRA/ROTH. Make 100k now and we still keep the same lifestyle. No handouts from the bank of mommy and daddy. Saved up early also and not burning savings so, I’m tired of people whining and thinking their pay is no good. People just spend it on useless stuff. I have 5-6 cousins who are big on shoes and I can’t even understand how people spend money on something not essential to everyday life lol.

Good for you but let’s not assume your situation applies to everybody else. I wasn’t able to discern from your response if you are a single parent household or your spouse brings in money as well- that’s a big difference with OP. Not to mention things such as healthcare, alimony, family and dependent costs, cost of living differences, age (how long you’ve been working and saving versus someone that’s just out of school with student debt), etc. You may have been blessed with good health, etc. that others were not. Quite easy to say people are “whining” when their circumstance is most definitely different from yours.

What location? I don't know why people always want to discuss their salary without sharing what city they live in, salary info is basically meaningless without the context of location. Like 80k in Lcol you are probably doing just fine vs 80k in hcol you are probably below or right above poverty line (depends on if its hcol or vhcol)

I’m lcol maybe even in a city that doesn’t have cost of labor standards haha and made 52k last year as first year staff and I bought a house. I think priorities are not straight if you can’t buy a pair of shoes.

I’m confused. I don’t understand what you are doing with your money. I mean I’m for the 401k/Roth IRA etc but to not have any money left for fun on 80k…do you buy lunch everyday? Coffee at Starbucks? Something like that. I don’t think you have an income problem but a spending problem on things that you are thinking “oh it’s just $5” and then it adds up. Idk maybe I’m wrong but I just can’t imagine where that is all going.
Agreed. A couple of places would make sense that this might be “low income” for the cost of the cities. I think OP needs to look at all their expenses and see what is it that they are choosing.
80k is plenty as a single person. Many families make it work on less they just don’t save tons of cash each month. This also doesn’t apply to places like San Fran most of the country/world does not live in places like this and should not be compared to.
