Yeah, I had this happen several times when I was job hunting. I get that things change, perhaps the job was cancelled or another candidate was even more perfect... but at least let us know.
Same. The not knowing is the worst part. Like I'd even take an automated one honestly. Closure is better than open ended imo.
I’ve had it happen too, there should be some laws against this.
Unfortunately, this type of situation happens more than we’d like, especially when companies get caught up in internal changes or shifting priorities.
If you’re feeling stuck, it could help to follow up one more time to check in and express your continued interest. It’s possible that things got delayed on their end, and sometimes a polite nudge can remind them you’re still eager.
Also, as frustrating as it is, try not to take it personally. The job market can be unpredictable, and ghosting, while not ideal, isn't always a reflection of your qualifications. If you’re looking for ways to stand out more in future applications, tools like Jobsolv may help you tailor your resume to specific roles and highlight your strengths in a way that gets noticed. Keep pushing forward, and the right opportunity will come your way soon!
Your feelings are valid.
I got off the emotional roller coaster by not caring. Organizations don’t care about me, so why should I care?
I was job hunting from Jan 2024 to Sept 2024. I created a spreadsheet to track my job hunting. One line per company. I had a status field with statuses like applied, researching, screening interview, ghosted etc. I also had a date field. Then I created a pivot table off the status field. This made it easier to spotted when I was ghosted.
I reserved my emotions for my spreadsheet. I was excited to add a new line. I would end my day by sharing with a family member how many active applications I had.
Totally normal. The recruitment industry is becoming increasingly ruthless with every passing hour. We are in the era where human touch is non-existent. Most roles are filled before even advertised...leaving candidates strung along. For the next one, if you're not like me and have the strength, keep your expectations low.
They found someone else. Sorry my friend
You might want to see it as another test...of perseverance. Make it a point to call and leave a voicemail every other day until someone gets back to you. It could show them just how much you want the job and the lengths you'll go to to get it.
I understand your pain; I recently went through something similar myself.
I went through three interviews and completed a test assignment. We were already discussing the salary, and they even pulled the vacancy off the market, rejecting all candidates. But lastly, I had a meeting with the company owner, and we haven't clicked.
I spent three days nervously waiting for an answer, and then I received a rejection. Honestly, I cried a lot.
It was just a standard rejection. Ofc I insisted on getting feedback, and eventually, I got some that was useful to me. As far as I know, they still haven’t filled that position it was 2-3 months ago.
How long has it been since you last heard from them?
It's past all the times they offered for the second interview
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. Have you tried following up with them one more time? It they still don't respond then I would just move on. It realy sucks that companies are so bad about ghosting these days because it only takes five seconds to send an email.
