I'm starting a new role as UX UI designer. The Company has some existing apps which they used to design on illustrator (yes wtf) and other stuff the developers just did directly with code. I managed to get the company on board to start using figma and start building a library/design system here... Now the question is, what would you advice me to start this process of transitioning to figma, start creating new material here and pass over what exists already in here?
Thanks I'm advance!

Start with whatever initiative the company is working on. Your goal should be a “minimum viable” design system that’s used properly inside and out for that particular project. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a feature or a completely new offering. From there you start implementing it incrementally from the inside out.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew and treat your developers like users to gain empathy. There are many reasons to use a design system, but making both you and your coworkers’ lives easier should be up there on the list. Leadership and other departments will jump on board when they see the value.

What is the biggest challenge you face as a UX DESIGNER in teams?

Hi Everyone! I’m an emerging UX Designer and would love some advise on how to pivot into this field. A little about me: I’ve always been creative and tech savvy - stemming from my beginnings as an IT major and ending with a BA & MA in Art History. I’ve had experience with usability studies and testing for the rollout of Salesforce in my company and have finished my Google UX certificate this past June. I would love to start working in a field that I’m passionate about. Any advise is appreciated!

Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! 🙏🏻

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately, the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

Few tips to improve your visual design skills

- Learn Typography: Typography is essential because 60-70% of user interfaces are about written content displayed in a meaningful way.

- Learn Layout and Composition: You don’t need to be pixel perfect, but if you place labels 10px above inputs, you must do that consistently across your whole design.

- Learn Color: Color doesn't need to be complex. Understand how colors interact with each other and learn how color can set moods.
