I feel this completely. I can't save enough to get the 6-12 months reserve. I just want to be okay in casec things get really bad. I also need to put more in for retirement. I just don't know if the reward is worth the risk. Even finding something around my work hours is hard.
Just give it a try. Do all you can for the job you want to keep. Try not to overachieve in the second to keep your sanity and go from there! If you can make it work, that’s great, I’d you can’t, go back to focusing on your primary one.
Find a J2 that pays more than J1... then it won't matter 🤣
Stop being a sissy and man up. Everyone has fears and concerns. What if everything goes perfectly? What if the absolute best possible series of events happens?
My first J2 lasted for 3 months. The first few weeks I worked round the clock to establish myself and figure out expectations at J2. Next 4 weeks I did about 2 hours of work per day at J2. The remaining month and a half they literally paid me to do nothing! They needed to have me “just in case” but did not assign me work.
I was able to save up for a down payment for a mortgage. More progress on that goal in these 3 months than in the preceding 15 years! Bought a house a few month later. Now fully renovating it, paying cash across the board for everything. The only reason that’s possible is because a new J2 is paying me more than my current J1, which I really like.
Stop it with this fearfulness and venture out! You can always quit J2 if it doesn’t work out.
