Recently started my own firm and interested in others thoughts. Are there resources out there for practical advice or is it only something that comes with experience? For example, I can take let's say a 601A client and use the resources available to me to learn how to do it. But if a client asks me is it better to marry my fiance in her home country, bring her here on a K-1 or have her visit on a B-2, that's not learned from a book or webinar. How does one learn how to evaluate new cases?

What are your client follow-up/communication policies or practices? I’m hearing more and more that clients don’t like the long periods of time with little to no contact. From my perspective, since I bill for my time, unless I have an update or need something, I don’t initiate a call. Also, clients hold on to important info and don’t initiate a call cause they’re waiting for me to communicate with them.

Let’s talk comp — I’m a remote head of recruitment with 6 years of experience being paid 75K base plus bonuses that got me to 90K this year. Our firm told everyone no bonuses this year due to the pandemic. However, people like myself with high utilization received a “bonus” in terms of a gift card. My director notified me of this, but the other day my boss was mentioning how no bonuses this year really sucks.
