I did and I do not recommend. I regret everyday. This is a sub par city with sub par living standards. Absolutely non existent job market, radical far left policies doxing high income earners. Literal shit show of infrastructure and homelessness but hey we have virtue signaling 😂😂
The big names out here are Nike, Adidas, Columbia, and Intel. I'm not sure about pharma. There are a ton of small-medium ad/creative/branding agencies around town, as well as outposts from big names like Wieden + Kennedy, R/GA, etc.
It's a pretty good place for creative jobs -- that said, I can't really speak to what the job market has been like in the last few years but maybe others here can!
This is reassuring thank you!
^ I agree. Don’t make the move here. You will be taxed like it’s your second alimony.
You get infra for what you pay. It’s ridiculous for a part time city like Portland to be taxing second highest after nyc. That’s a joke
Do not do it. I am living the regret every day. Moved here from Southern California.
Any particular reason?
Yes, there are some nice things about Portland. But unless you can get a job at W+K, there is nothing here for your advertising career. Very few significant ad agencies (meaning, one). And no pharma agencies. Even if you work at W+K, when you leave you’ll probably need to leave Portland to get your next job.
At one time the cost of living was low. Not anymore. Taxes are close to NYC level.
As others have said, it’s a small town. After NYC, it will feel puny.
I love Portland, but I can easily, firmly, and wholeheartedly advise you against it. Happy to give more details; just ask.
Do you live in NJ or do you live in NYC?
Are you in touch with any agencies in PDX?
I live in NJ and work in NYC, I'm not in touch with any PDX agencies but I have a friend at Nike
