If you're deeply unhappy where you are, you should explore the job market and see what you can find. It's possible you might find something that meets your salary expectations. Even if you have to settle for a lower salary, it may be worth it if you really are, as you say, desperate to get out of a bad situation.
I agree with this totally. Did this last year and it was the right decision for me
I’m where you’re at. But my situation isn’t as bad. I’m just really annoyed by my coworkers.
Speaking from personal experience, assuming the low(er) salary can still cover the costs of living and somewhat maintain your lifestyle, I’d go for it. The fallout and long-term consequences of burnout, stress and career dissatisfaction are too high - think of the opportunity costs of not trying out a new career path that you genuinely enjoy in favor of a job that leads nowhere meaningful.
Go to a smaller company that pays a smaller salary but don’t take a smaller title
Have uou considered, maybe, just maybe taking a 2 week vacation and see if that is what you needed before jumping ship? Sometimes that actually helps. Sometimes not. But it’s just a suggestion. You know yourself.
As far as salary goes, sit down, figure out what you can actually live without, foodwise, how to save on electricity (a very close friend of mine is living without electricity until she can get a handle on her bills again. But she said, she is fixing to have to be super late on some bills because Spring is being skipped over or briefed and going right smack dab into Summer. She said it’s hotter and humid where she lives. She hadn’t had electricity since November. Her electricity bill skyrocketed to it’s highest at $700.00 and it’s ONLY her. That scared me!). How low can you go money wise. Then take the lower salaried job pay subtract FICA, taxes, social security (you know the government has to take from you too, of course) and possible insurance, state tax, and whatever else out then see if you can do on a lower salary. IF so, go for it. Guard your peace.
Could you try to get a job in a LCOL area? Or if that’s not an option and if you have debts, take the next 6 months to pay off debts so that making less is not as big a deal.
