The same old dusty folks who opposed any expansion of metro service in the 90s, which is why Houston is one of the few large cities with an absolute travesty of a public transportation system.
Seems like a good idea in a perfect world. My experience with the state forcefully taking land for public projects results in payments of pennies on the dollar to the property owners.
Not an easy problem to solve. You either have the state abusing land owners or land owners price gouging or holding up important public projects. There's also the issue of bypassing existing roadstops that would damage a local economy.
Rural populations and property owners are older than urban populations. I'd imagine the former are more likely to be negatively impacted by this.
I'm not certain of the exact numbers either. I'm not saying it's a reason why I would personally prevent the construction. It's about empathy for those who may be negatively impacted.
Same people that opposed expansion of the light rail. Completely senseless.
A light rail in Houston doesn’t make a whole ton of sense… it’s so wide and spread out, unlike NY and Chicago
Ok lol. Whatever you want to think!
Imagine working your whole life and saving up to have your own place. Only to have it taken through imminent domain. ROW appraisers don’t work for you. They work for government. I’d be right there with them if they were my neighbors.
