Please please watch all videos from Andrew Lacivita on YouTube. He breaks down if your not getting interviews (which signal is a problem with the résumé), if you’re getting interviews, but aren’t getting offers (which signal is a problem with how you’re telling your stories and selling yourself in the interview), how to network more effectively.

I find most people don’t know how to network. They call up a friend or a friend of a friend and tell them what they’re looking for in vague terms. They don’t bring two or three job jobs at that person’s current company that they would be interested in to the meeting. And they don’t bring the names of two or three people that person is connected with that they’d like to talk to. And then don’t throw the wild card question at the end: is there anyone you think I should meet or a specific job in mind that you think I’d be a great fit for?

Instead, they tell the other person what they want in vague terms and essentially dump their job search on the other person. Then that person is left with wondering if jobs they had in mind were too high, too low, would offend the person, etc. and so the safest thing is for them to do nothing… which is exactly what happens 99% of the time when you take this approach.

Bring a copy of the job description to the meeting so that it can be shared on screen or immediately emailed to the person. This is critical so they can look for clues in the description about who the hiring manger might be or the HR recruiter etc. Make it as easy as possible for the other person to help you. They shouldn’t have to search for anything, look up anything, etc.

Please watch Andy’s videos. They are life changing. Practice his CAAR technique for story telling. Good luck

Thank you so much. I'll check out his youtube and yes I also struggle with networking... i'm kind of an introvert. Thank you for your review I'll work on that.

Let me start by saying that I mean what I’m type in the nicest possible way. Please assume positive intent. I can sense the frustration and possibly even desperation in your post so I’m going give you my thoughts in hopes that it helps you.

Why should you listen to me? I’ve been in US healthcare IT for 25 years. I’ve looked at a lot of resumes and done a lot of hiring. But perhaps most importantly, even though I am at the executive level my friends make fun of me because I’m the only person they know who has created their entire career … and I mean entire career by sending my résumé into the HR black hole, getting an interview, and getting the job.

I reviewed your resume and your linkedin. The first things I noticed were …
1) no metrics or stats on the resume. Ex. Increased report speed by 200%, increased sale rep use of the daily report by 47%, analyzed campaign effectiveness and provided 8 suggestions for future improvements resulting in 18% increase in effectiveness, etc.

2) no industry info for the companies you helped. Looks like one was banking. But the freelance doesn’t tell me.

3) you tell me what you did but don’t say the impact you had (this goes back to the metrics), the kinds of groups/people you worked with. Were they business partners? Other IT people? How many people were on the average project? What was their problem and how did you help fix it?

4) the resume and linkedin don’t match. A lot of people want to see them match 90+%.

5) what city/state/region you worked in or helped people. Ex. Maybe you were remote in Nigeria and helped people in Canada.

6) this is reallllllly picky. And I cringe to type this but let me tell you why I’m mentioning it. Data analysts need to be EXCEPTIONALLY detail oriented. In the education section it says “B.A English”. If that is the norm in Nigeria then you are good. But as an American I’m like she is missing the period after the “A”. Should read … B.A. English Again I’m very sorry for mentioning this because it’s picky. But it goes against the image of detail oriented.

7) if I’m looking to hire someone for data related jobs …… tbh I need help overcoming the English degree bec so many people with technical degrees are out of work. You are competing against those people.

My mind thinks “this person is an English major who got a post bac cert in data. She’s an English major.” I can’t get past that unless you help me. Part of me thinks you should position yourself as a technical person who can talk to a wide variety of stakeholders. Very comfortable getting requirements from users, understanding their goals, telling the data story. Because this is where the really technical people usually have a gap. They can’t talk to the stakeholders, or they can’t tell the story behind the data.

So I think you should look for jobs that require some technical skills, but talk a lot about working with stakeholders and possibly end users. I think you’ll have a better shot of getting those kinds of jobs.

8) finally … for every job you apply to … you need to take every phrase on the job description and if you have done that activity/task put it WORD FOR WORD on your resume. Exact match. Dumb it down for HR. Never lie on your resume but if you have done something that is in the job description put it under the appropriate job(s) on your resume. If this means you run out of room then cut down the summary at the very top because you are too early career to have such a lengthy summary.

I hope this helps. Best of luck. 🍀

Really really strong work!!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 It is so much better. I know so much more about you reading this! I can’t see all the text bec on my phone but I love the stats!!! Yes!!! It tells me about the impact you are making.

I have a couple of minor suggestions …
1) customize your linkedin link. You shorten it so something easy and you like. Just google how to customize the link then put the shorter link on your resume.

2) if you can trim the opening paragraph to get on 4-5 lines I think that would be good. It’s a little long for early career.

3) move the core competencies section to under technical skills. I think it gets lost under the big paragraph. Try to limit to 2 lines. It’s too much.

4) you really CRUSHED the bullets under the career highlights and work experience sections. I mean I love them. Amazing job. 😎 But …. I really think you should remove the career highlights label and move the bullets under the appropriate work experience job. Then remove anything that is redundant for each job. As a hiring manager I don’t expect early career people to have a resume with this much on it. It’s too much.

Don’t worry if you can’t fill the full page. That is totally fine!!! And it shows the ability to curate. To focus on the important stuff. Since you do BI, data and dashboards in your case your resume can actually be a signal about your design aesthetic. Is it clean? Is it pruned? Is it easy to follow? Less is more.

5) I’m reading on my phone and can’t see everything but I noticed under the Freelance section … “An independent…” needs to be moved to the left and lined up under the F in Freelance to match the first paragraph at the very very top and the BI section. IMO they should all align on the left.

If you are still actively freelancing, then I would change the word “served” to “serve” present tense in the second sentence under this job. You could also rework this sentence to start with the word “Lead”. It’s a little stronger.

I hope this resume sets you on a new wonderful path. It’s so much more informative!!!! Good luck and don’t be afraid to tweak and run experiments.

Also remember if a job description has something you have done on it then put it EXACTLY … Word for Word on a customized résumé. The more you can do this the more likely you are to get an interview. Never lie but dumb it down. It makes it easier for HR to screen your resume and get you to the hiring manager.

i found this after i took a worker off to burger king the video of the person needing attention was great i kept her cose as she was hungry fab and when i nearly fainted becouse she was work proof i suddenly changed my mind as she was more social after she had made a extra cheesburger hoime cooked from her bottom lip i did pay her fare well and paid the bill before so when she got up to go so was her head all that fuss folks for adrink company she was more paying attention to the floor walkers and wanted more lunch by the hoiur i wasnt that hopefull for the attention i just landed ajob

I'm just concerned with the political turmoil going on and trying to figure out what ETFs I should be investing in and how much I should be putting in every week.

How would you recommend investing the money?

I am in a tech IC position. One of friends switched to FAANG by converting the profile to consultant profile. The friend who might have less tech knowledge than me is now in FAANG and earning more. If the end goal would be that the friend might one day be a product manager and me an engineering manager taking instructions from the same friend, isn't consultant profile an easier path to growth. I had been practising DSA for years and the competition is only ever growing.

Has anyone done the "Google Project Manager Certification Program" in coursera?

If you did, did it get any more job/job interviews/ recruiters interested in you?

I am currently doing it, I thought it was 1 6 week module but it is ACTUALLY 6, 6 weeks modules... so pretty long... I am going to finish but I'm thinking it might not be as good of and investment as a thought hahahah
