Different between firms

like

At EY, at least on audit and tax, Sr manager is before MD and Partner. Directors are primarily non client serving people, equivalent to MD.

At KPMG they are mostly equivalent but certain groups mostly use one and certain groups the other. Technically, I think the director title (in tax at least) has slightly more authority but payscale is the same.

like

At EY, directors are non client serving (so ppl in HR, for example). We also have managing directors - which is a non-partner path - many of the same responsibilities of a partner (depending on service line) but not all the same, so less risk and less comp (and non equity). Senior manager is the rank before PPMD.

like

It’s also important to distinguish that we have a very long Sr Manager runway compared to other B4. A Sr Manager 4+ at EY is equivalent to a Director at the other B4.

KPMG (tax) - senior managers are given a director job title if they are not on the MD/partner track.

At my firm, directors are those that will not be promoted to partner for whatever reason.

I’m considering switching from IB to consulting, and I have a few questions:

- How bad are consulting hours? How often do you pull all-nighters and/or work weekends?
- How much do you hate your job/life on a daily basis?
- Compensation? (Entry level, 3 yrs, 5 yrs, etc? Salary/bonus?)
- How much networking do I need to do to get in (with prior IB experience)?
- Are any firms hiring entry level candidates right now? (I heard some firms just hired ALL their summer interns)
- Other thoughts?

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

Hi #Urgent

Got the Offer Letter from
Citi upon accepting I also received the Background Verification (BGV) mail.

which says I need to provide the relieving letter/experience letter. But the thing is I have not received it (it will take some time). I only have resignation acceptance letter.

Can we still proceed for bgv process and tell Citi that I will provide the relieving letter later on when i get it.

(already passed my LWD: 2nd nov)

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

I got laid off and not sure if I should find a place cheaper to live by myself and pay rent with UI for couple of months while studying or go back home where family is and contribute much less than I will be spending living alone to parents for rent. I will be saving a lot. Problem is younger sister who is mentally draining and steals my things, makes nasty comments towards me lives there and her bedroom will be right next to mine. She once got me arrested for no reason. What should I do?

Jumped from public to a job in a place run by boomers but I just wanted out of public so I took the first offer that came to me. 5 months in and I realized it's not a good fit at all.
