In your mass farewell email, do you mention where you’re going?

At my firm it’s pretty normal to send it firm wide and to include where you’re going, so I’m surprised by these responses.

like

Yes, include where you’re going for the sake of gossipy people like me who will call someone else to get the scoop on you if you don’t include it :)

Yes.

It is okay, perhaps even preferable for everyone, if going in-house or something else other than going to another firm. No if going to another firm unless it is in another location due to a move or something similar. Target it in either case.

Had associates, counsels, and partners leave the firm to go elsewhere. They sent mass goodbye emails and mentioned where they were going. Been seeing it the entire 6 years I’ve been at the firm.

Pre pandemic I was traveling 5 days a week and just used left over per diem on the one night I went out with friends at home. During covid I stayed home. Now that I’m fully vaccinated and are many of my friends they want to go out to eat/drink. During covid I moved from a LCOL to here so I’m experiencing delayed sticker shock at the prices. Any tips?

Do you think partners in law firms have too much power and autonomy? eg. the power to refuse leave, to do your annual appraisal, to make you work while on leave, to overwork people, to manage the team on their on terms etc. Is this power bad or good for the firm and the team overall?

Got an email from someone who is supposedly wanting to hire my firm, but a few things are giving me pause: 1) I’m a rising third year, so idk why they are emailing me, 2) it just says “dear attorney” then the short message, not my name (though practice group is correct), 3) it is from a gmail email address, not the company. So… do you think this is real? I plan to forward it to a partner, but should I first send to IT to see if it’s even real? Just seems weird to me.
