Love to see Duke lose
I have an offer from Mercer to join as module lead with 12.5 fix CTC and annual incentive plan which is not clearly mentioned in offer letter. My joining date is 31st October so as per company policy anyone joining after 1st oct won't be eligible for appraisal cycle nor for annual incentive plan..which makes my package 12.5 lacs for next one and a half year.
Not sure if it would be a wise decision, current CTC is 9.08 lacs Mercer

It is the price to pay for market leadership. We do lots of shady stuff too
P1, looks like you should go to a BCG cool aid rehab...
BCG has strong internal controls on politically or socially sensitive engagements and clients as well as sufficient firm-level oversight to implement them. BCG is legitimately better at not doing bad stuff. Bain may be as well - but they also benefit from being a good bit smaller, doing a lot less government work, and being in fewer geos.
Bain got more than their fair share from Romney and Bain Cap spillover. Like BCG got more than their fair share from suing some meme for not paying their bills without checking if they had a near homicidal cult attached.

To be fair to McK, there’s at least SOME lightning rod effect that they have to deal with. Some journalists just love to take their shots. But there’s no doubt that the scale and frequency of bad doing over there is well beyond the other two.
BCG’s work in Saudi is far more restricted than that of our competitors. There’ve been plenty of Saudi consulting scandals, conveniently not really involving BCG. There’s a reason for that.
And no McK 4, you are unique.

lmao mckinsey is that sloppy friend that’ll do anything with anyone and ends up in the monday groupchat
I rejoined a different geography because I was asked (told) to work on a case which I found incredibly questionable. Publicly we say we work on cases in Saudi which improve economic growth. The question is how.
The case I'm referring to happened shortly before the events at the Riyadh Ritz- IYKYK. The fact is, we picked a Saudi faction that won by some underhanded means. I won't attach the Guardian article but the consequences of our work there was unforgivable.
It's too recent for the story to come out, but it will and we'll have our reckoning in the same way McKinsey have had theirs.
Bain doesn’t do government work.
McKinsey operates in silos. Much less oversight.
Some may argue that size is a byproduct of lengths they’re willing to go to.
I’m not a partner, but my guess is that it has something to do with the difference in comp structure at the partner/sr partner level across the firms.
Same reason Lebron gets more scrutiny than Paul George

Based on business school classmates’ personalities - there is a difference and it arises out of the most extreme need for external validation via achievement.
So true
For my BCG colleagues saying we’re just the same as McK - we had a policy a long time ago against working with opioid manufacturers and hence avoided the decades of shady stuff McK did with Purdue. We declined to work on the ICE program that is referenced (we declined to even bid). And we haven’t had our former CEO go to jail and multiple other senior partners either be wanted or actually in jail. There is a meaningful difference. As for the work in Saudi - I find it distasteful as well but we didn’t do intelligence work and we certainly didn’t identify dissidents. It’s already come out what our role there is and I feel better about it than I would if I was at McK.
They’re all just little stinkers
There are some differences, but it’s mostly just that NYT does not like us. Most of their big dramatic stories only talk about McKinsey even though Bain and BCG worked with the exact same clients haha
That what Bob wrote in his last firm wide email, M4?
Honest answer: people outside of consulting my confuse BCG and Bain. Same letters in the acronym, M stands out.
That’s definitely our primary problem
