My final round with Deloitte for UK Tech Consulting Manager position soon. Strangely it’s not a PMD round as it usually is for other Big4/tech consulting firms.
1. Can anyone tell me if they’ve been through the whole process without speaking to PMD? (First round Sr Manager, second Case Interview by a manager and third again by a manager) 2. What is a typical salary to expect? I was asked in screening but kept it vague (e.g can discuss later bla bla). I was hoping 75-80 (ridiculous?)

Asked me my creative process and when I mentioned I like to think on my own for a bit before jumping into a group brainstorm, he gave me a judgey face and said smugly, "Well we're collaborative here." He ended the interview by shaking my hand and saying he doesn't know when they'll get back to me because "He's very picky." Cool, man. I've had a better lunch break at Subway.
☝️sounds like a place I don't want to work
I interviewed with a super douche once at a tiny agency in Chicago. He was like the personification of Poochie (from the Simpsons) in a coked up body of some low-rent, 50+ Mark McGrath knock off. Dude was manic from the start and kept describing the agency as embracing disruption, or words to that effect. He wanted to know if I was ready to be disruptive. 🙄
All 1 interview:
Put 10 verbs on a dry erase board behind me, gave me 30 seconds to write in a verb next to each one. Ie jump - ball, acquire - candy, etc.
Handed me a 30 page deck, let me skim it, then said you have 60 seconds to make it 20 slides, then when done they said 30 seconds to make it 10.
Asked me if I needed to get a hold of the CEO what would i do, after each answer they asked what if that didn't work, for like 10-15 rounds. Finally I said, sounds like we can't find the CEO.
Not crazy.but this one made me think: what are other people's biggest misconceptions about you?
^^how does that have anything to do with self-awareness and also if your goal is to "mess w someone" you're just an asshole who makes your company look bad
Gross. I interviewed at a company a few years ago and after I left, I got an email from a throw away address saying, "if they offer you the position, do NOT take it." Went on to describe how shitty the place was.
Gotcha. Hmm, my two cents are, if you want to find C suite people ASAP, ask their admin!! Don't waste time looking for them, lol. And when you find them, you'd better have a damned good reason for contacting them, because the first thing they'll say is: What do you recommend we should do?
I hate gimmicky/trying to be too cool interview questions. So much is about right fit, at least 50%. Depending on the exact function and context, asking what are some misconceptions about you is far more meaningful than cutting down deck slides
Do you have a confidence issue
About the CEO, what did you answer? My first question back would be "Why do I need to reach the CEO in the first place?", then I'll decide if it's really necessary to bother him/her. I've to report to the CEO twice and the last thing I want to ever do is call them about something I should be figuring out how to manage myself
Question 1: Tell me about how your experience lines up with the job description we shared. Me: I think it's a great fit because of (several specific points here), but one area that I think I'd have to stretch a bit is the global nature of the role as I haven't had the opportunity to work on a truly global team yet.
Question 2: So tell us about a time that you brought together a disconnected global team and developed a cohesive, high performing environment. Me: Ummm... I haven't. I just said I haven't had global experience yet.
Got the job. 🤔 And currently run a cohesive, global team at a different agency based on all the shit that job taught me NOT to do. 💁💁
I ask some pretty crazy ones so I've been pretty disappointed in the lack of creativity exhibited by people who have interviewed me.
How would you sell bananas
Are you a hunter or a farmer?
"So, as you know, marketing graduate scheme is now full, but you have agreed to switch your application to HR and finance scheme. Okay, so, first question: why did you decide to apply for HR and finance graduate scheme?" I didn't pass the phone interview
Once, to mess w someone but also to gauge self-awareness, I asked "if we started this meeting over again, is there anything we should do differently."
