I have significantly more respect for managers who view and treat us as people vs. the distant, cold type of manager.
Same! Treating employees as humans instead of cogs goes a long way
From my personal experience I believe it’s all about your delivery. Fun yet firm. I have a great time with my associates but when it’s time for business I never have to repeat myself because I also lead by example. I’m going to set direction and pitch in when and where I can.

I agree that this can be a fine line to navigate. You want to be firm, but without being unreasonable. Fun, but not enough to be taken for a clown. Flexible, but not a pushover. Be the kind of leader you'd like to have for yourself.
