Introvert. Hate going for a drink after work. I only socialise if I know that person - I don’t socialise to get to know them. Hardly anything to talk about if you don’t know someone. Am I weird ?

I don't think you're weird. I know some introverts that are like you.

like

I’m like you too but you’ve got to get past it. You don’t have to be out every week but even every few months is nice. You never know what may happen

like

My other advice is if you don’t start doing that no matter how good you are at your job you will end up getting pushed out eventually when things economically cool down. That happened to me. But I was sure to make friendships so that made it harder to fire me because I was so well liked.

likehelpful

No. But speaking as one introvert to another, you need to get over it and learn to socialize if you want to get ahead or even just exist in this profession. Learn some techniques for making small talk and force yourself to participate in these networking events. Eventually you will become comfortable enough to fake it sufficiently well.

Am an introvert who also hates it but will go to firm sponsored social events because my love for free food and drinks outweighs my hatred for small talk 😂

like

Free food for the win! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also leave early after making sure you've been seen.

like

How do you ever get to know anyone new? I’m not a huge extrovert but this seems quite extreme.

like

I try not to mingle with people form the office… don’t play where you work, shit where you eat…

If your goal is partnership, this seems to be necessary

Fake it til you make it. Need to be uncomfortable sometimes

The extroverts will find you, especially if you do good work. I was perceived as quiet and not confident when I was more junior. Now, when I speak people listen, because if I’m bothering to speak, it’s important.

Who do you think does appellate work?

Not weird. Those drinks are always small talk. I’d rather die.

like

Most of us hate that. We do it because it’s expected of us. Not weird for feeling that way but weird if you refuse to go.

I love people, but don’t really like socializing with lawyers but it’s the job. Find a few safe/funny topics you can discuss with people and have those same conversations regularly. “I heard you like X” “tell me about your pet/child/hobby”, talk about your hobby.

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

Hello Everyone,

I am in search of a Project Manager role. I have about 4 + years experience managing projects and in consulting.

I am about concluding the google certificate in project management, and one unique think I bring into any team is my strategic thinking and ability to solve problems in record time.

I am based in Canada and a remote role will be great.

I anticipate your responses and recommendations thank you very much.

I am working on a NFOA for a design case. The Examiner identified a primary references and four secondary references. The Examiner also pointed out five differences between the primary reference and the claimed design. For the reply, I found nine additional differences between the claimed design and the primary reference, two of which are not present in any of the cited references. Should I clarify the level of a designer having ordinary skill in the art first? Complex/Expensive article. TY!
