Is 15% raise in salary worth moving states?

Depends on the cost of living index comparison between the two zip codes you'll be moving from / to. There are cost of living index comparison websites you can research.

This is a big question. Which cities? Are you single? Do you like the job/firm?

like

Need much more info to even begin to help. First what are your prospects / timing for getting to that comp level at your current employer or at others in your state. How strongly do you feel about where you live? Do you like the two states? Cost of living in each one? Do you have a family? Prob more.

like

Generally, I like AZ, but super hot in summer. I’d think about how much the 15% is and how hard it would be to get to that level where you are. Prob wouldn’t have to do much convincing to get me to move MN->AZ. But personal preference I guess.

like

I think work can’t be the only thing if you’re considering moving states. You also have to be excited about the new city/lower cost of living/change of pace or whatever non work reasons might be compelling to you

like

Guessing you don't have any strong ties to your current location? If so then sure go for it.

I read this super interesting article about how big companies like Toyota are investing in social-emotional training for their employees and seeing massive benefits. I actually think this could be a whole separate class for students of all ages. Learning about conflict resolution, growing your own self-regulation skills...it's really important.

Anyone left to do program management at a tech co? I work largely as a functional delivery lead, driving teams to develop/implement software. In this world I know the way forward. I have an interview for a program manager position in the product management / marketing division. Not sure what to expect here— anyone exited similarly? I think my skills are transferable but think I’m too used to working in the weeds.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?

For any real estate investors

22 years old and currently focused on using my left over income to invest and pay off my debt. I am set to pay off my college loans by next year and, when I do, I want to look into investing into real estate. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get into/learn more about real estate investing? Or how I can have enough knowledge on the topic to be able to invest wisely when the time comes?

Any books? youtubers? etc. How did you all learn about it?

Feeling grateful & proud as I reached my goal ($50K by 25) 5 months early. But I can’t help feeling a bit overwhelmed. In the lifelong scheme of things, $50K doesn’t seem like much. I worked really hard and sacrificed a lot (including mental health) to get to this but it seems a little tiring knowing I still have so long to go. I recently moved out and in with my BF so my expenses are split, but nonetheless they are still expenses. Any tips on continuing this journey and keeping the drive?

I'm a young professional finishing my first year of my career. Last month I opened a brokerage account & invested $4000 in the stock market. I'm planning to invest at at least $2000/month every month now with the goal of creating a passive income stream. Do any of you have experience with a dividend growth strategy? How did you get started?

I wish I wasn’t adaptable. Humans aspire for a greater level of comfort and once achieved, adopt that as their new baseline. Because of this, somebody making $100k cannot simply comfortably revert back to a $50k lifestyle. The slow growth of personal wealth isn’t noticed as ideated. Instead, we are never satisfied.

Question about what to do next. I’ve maxed out everything—401k, HSA, IRA, backdoor Roth 401k. My bills are all paid. I'm a Canadian on the TN visa working in the US and planning on maxing my Roth IRA (6k) and will have enough left to max my 401k this year, but am not sure if I should just use a taxable account over 401k due to tax considerations when I move back to Canada (likely 1-2 years from now). Any thoughts here? I don't think I'll have enough RRSP room to move 401k>IRA>RRSP and I would prefer to not have to file US taxes every year in retirement for withdrawls if I left the 401k in the US.
