I pay 2300 rent UES on 130k. I’m living comfortably!

150k is effectively minimum wage in NYC. You’ll be able to cover basic expenses, not much else.

OP - Manager opened a side conversation about the median income of all New Yorkers. It’s not only about you
Around 1 in 8 in NYC are disabled, it’s not taboo to talk about it.
150k on 1500 rent is very solid, I’m paying 2500 on 125k and I’m able to save, DoorDash, eat out, and go on trips regularly. But QOL change will depend on your previous comp
Good to know!! Ya my previous comp was like $75k… what I was paid in Chicago and they didn’t match market when I moved to NYC. So it would be a substantial increase in pay and I’m hoping quality of life as well.
Oh for more context, I live in Manhattan and my rent is only $1,500… however it may increase next year when my lease is up. Got super lucky with a Covid deal when I moved here and they only raised it by like 3%.
@ Program Management Office 1– ya, I’m guessing next year it’ll go up to pre-Covid market which is like $2,600. :/ at which point I might look for something different. We’ll see.
If you are single, yes.
You'd be ballin, it's a lot of money for that rent. Unless you don't know how to ball, then probably you won't even with that cheese in ya pockets fool
Bahahah best response! Oh, I know how to spend money 😬 lol. Although it would def be an adjustment.
That's the minimum survival amount to live in Manhattan alone. Not Manhattan ballin income, but comfortable single Manhattan living. Then again, living Manhattan comfortably is a luxury and by the rest of the world, you'd be considered rich.

Must be nice to have Amazon printing you free money
The biggest thing is rent. If you can find a place that's rent-controlled/subsidized / from a private landlord and only raise a minimal % every year, you will have money to ball.
I was making 125k and I didnt move to a bigger / better place when I got raises, I still got to max out my 401k, save, travel 2-3 times a year, go out once a month, etc.
Rent stabilization has nothing to do with the tenant’s income, fool. Check yo bitchassness. Good Lord. 😅 and you have no idea about my background or where I’m from, frankly.
If you already live in New York, then you know the drill, so is there really a question?
I mean, that’s $8K net a month. If you want to live anywhere in Manhattan that’s decent (meaning an elevator and no roommates), that’s at least $3-4K. Basic stuff (utilities and groceries) can take an additional $700-1K.
So there’s $3K to do the rest of that stuff and if you have no loans you’ll be good. I mean, as long as you’re not doing $180 dinners every single weekend.
So you won’t be BALLIN but should be OK.
I’m not sure where you’re living right now (that’s a killer deal without roommates) but living in a decent building in NYC (meaning no walk-ups, close to subway etc) makes a world of a difference.
Makes sense. Good insight. Yeah, I guess I wanted some reassurance that $150k is a decent salary in New York, as long as you don’t go too crazy. I thought that even $120k would be fine but I’ve seen some other posts where people strongly disagreed that $120k is enough in New York.
But then again, we’ll see if I even get this job. As of now it’s just hopeful thinking 😅

Be careful with fixed expenses like rent. That's where lifestyle inflation creeps in and you can end up feeling poorer even when you earn a lot more. (Learned that the hard way)
Ya I have a couple friends who got a substantial increase in salary and are now like “I still feel broke… I need to earn more.” I’ll make a budget and be sure to not live outside my means.

Paying 2500 on 95k pretax. You’ll be fine.
Rent is 1.5k and non-stabilized? What in the world
