Simple answer is yes. No one would admit it but ageism is very present. And when it seems like it’s not they want to offer you the same comp they would offer someone with less than 10 years of experience when you probably have 20+.
I also disagree with the poster above that said it’s better for older women than men. Men in their late 40’s and 50’s have a lot more exec opportunities than women in the same age group IMHO.
Younger generally equals cheaper, so it's a definite yes. Unless you have a specialized skill that's in demand you can expect to see more of this as you continue to age.
Yeah stop aging if you don't like being discriminated against
If you are female you have a much better chance. Older men are left to the dust…
Managing Director 1, do yourself a favor and stop using the term “woke”
Yes. It’s rampant in the United States. Older workers are discarded from consideration, typically before they even get an interview.
Fret not, OP. Just apply unless it’s a ton of effort. There’s a role that is a good fit for you that’s waiting. Wish you much success!
Yes. I have deleted the first ten years of my career from my resume for this exact purpose.
Stale, pale, and male only works in your favor if you are somewhat established and have connections.
Yes— I have absolutely experienced both outright, blatant comments about being old and more subtle jabs. Now that I have been with the company longer, I speak up, but I bit my tongue at first. I stay current on trends (AI, etc.), bring high energy and dress in modern fashions to portray an image of up-to-date skills. Good luck to my fellow mature consultants out there!
Very cool SD1.
Nothing you can do about how ppl perceive you, just keep moving. Ageism is real.
I always check the company’s website for types of employees, including diversity.
No country for old men. They should make a movie about it someday.
I will direct that movie. Any takers for the cast? I will do the script writing. ✍️
Don’t think to hard about that. The grass is always greener.
To put it in perspective…
One time I was on a work softball team and everyone was over 40. Most of the guys have played ball seriously most of their lives. When we got off the bus everyone noticed the other teams avg age was 20-22. All I heard was “ Aw man we are going to be creamed”. I went to get a soda and walked past the other team. They were saying the same thing about the older guys. Soda came out my nose! It’s all perspective!
BTW.. we kicked their Butts!!!!
