Hi Fishes, I am bit confused to pick the role in KPMG lighthouse as Sr Cloud Data architect or Saama technology as a Project lead. Money wise it is not a big difference. In KPMG I will work with partner where as in saama I will work with project/program manager. Please suggest your opinion. Saama KPMG KPMG India

I've heard it said that "To get the job, it's who you know. To succeed in the job, it's what you know." That goes for any profession. For a physician going to another location to be a physician, who you know is less important than it is in fields like finance, insurance and sales. If you are moving out of your "comfort zone" and into another related field of endeavor, your past performance and expertise as a physician becomes less important, and the way of the world is that someone approximately as suited for the new job as you are has a leg up if he knows a company bigwig, went to a prestigious university, is personable and -- yuck -- is fairly attractive. How long they stay in that position depends on their ability, not personality and connections.
Honestly I don't think this is just our industry, and I think there are other industries that rely even more on networking. I think it's just because there's so much noise with online applications and people actually just want to hire someone they can trust. Ironically I think it's our global interconnectedness that is making people crave hyper local social connections when hiring -- and this is across industries
I disagree that it’s about networking, clinical practice
Is only one of the factors that it’s looked at for a pharma position, I have seen many physician with lots of clinical practice and multiple board certifications struggle to adjust and not able to perform the job. Other skills such regulations, global pharmacovigilance, data mining, and drug development are needed in high demand. I have been in pharma for a good amount of years and all my jobs I have applied like any regular person on their website.
