Is anyone here a part time attorney (preferably transactional)? Thinking of heading that direction and curious about what those jobs look like.

Yep I’m part-time at a firm. It’s not perfect but way better than full-time. Feel free to DM me with any specific questions.

Sure, lots of folks, including me. It’s worked out great.

I’ve done both.

Reduced overall billables these days, my kids are older. Though I do have baked into my schedule that I pick one of my kids up at 3 PM, three days a week, and folks know I’m out of pocket for a few hours in the afternoon those days.

For six years, I worked four days a week.

Both have worked great. I end up having some late nights from time to time, but I’m absolutely willing to do it. The pros outweigh the cons.

And, because of the reduced target, I’m never really worried about making my hours or delivering what I promised. IMO this is a huge weight lifted.

As things start to open up fully, some of my institutional clients are sending notices that we are expected to do X activity over zoom from here on out (things we used to do in person). Clearly it’s a cost cutting measure. Anyone else feel like filing for telephonic appearance so the insurance company can save a buck isn’t going to sit well with judges who prefer in person attendance? I hope they deny all of them so my billables don’t suffer. Less travel = more desk bs I have to do to hit quota

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.

What is the process for negotiating a job offer (from a firm or otherwise)? Do you have to be ready to ask for more salary/bonus/other perks right when they call you to make the offer, or can you ask for time to consider and then call back with your additional requests? I’m not the best at thinking quickly on the spot, so feel like I could be more thoughtful if I took a day or two to consider my requests.
