Is anyone working? I’m in nyc and things are bleak. I’m not booked and no one I know is either. For context usually I stay very busy.

Not much here either. Holds that get put in and then go away. Few little projects here and there. But yeah, January is usually pretty slow. The bulk of the year is usually double booked though.

We have quite a few jobs that aren’t shooting until mid to late Feb so kind of waiting for that round to hit next…

I’m slow but I have almost never had a good January

Slow. Keep thinking I need to shake more trees but the response is the same everywhere. January is usually slow but i normally have something lined up for February by now.

I’ve been trying to reach out a lot to past and potential new clients and it’s getting me nowhere at the moment. But hopefully I’ll be in their heads when it picks up!

Totally disinterested in tax, have 2.5 years experience and masters in accounting. Banking and finance jobs for about 3 years before I got into accounting. I don’t like the stuff that comes along with public, such as time tracking and hours goals. A transfer to audit is low on my priority list (also tough to pull off). Just started actively looking in industry, but fear that if I continue to stay in my current position, I will get pigeonholed into tax only positions in the future. Cont...

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

Would you work at your company again if you were laid off?

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

Who else started with small businesses and moved up to medium and large at agencies structured to handle it? I handle 40 clients and some 60 Content managers, ad managers, designers, developers, and a smattering of other positions.

Which was better? I have almost complete autonomy over what happens with small biz, but getting to focus on projects for more than an hour/month sounds nice.

Fellow editors, I’m leaving somewhere where I’ve been in-house for 5 years, and was in-house 2 other place before that. I’m realizing that while I’m excellent at my craft, I’m not an excellent freelancer. Any advice for someone striking out on their own (and not in LA/NY)?

Does anyone include a bit on invoices like "Accounts not paid within terms are subject to a .75% monthly (9% annual) finance charge" or something like that?

Tangentially, has anyone had an invoice with 30-day terms kicked back for revisions because the client's terms are longer, or do they just ignore what you've stipulated?

I’m new to freelancing, at a senior level and in NYC. Can anyone give me a range of what day rate would be appropriate to charge? Thank you!!

Roll call. How much experience? Do you staff in a boutique? An agency? Freelance? If freelance, do you usually work in agency studios, prodcos...? Do you bring on a post producer to help on big jobs?
