Basically assuming you spend the 300 travel credit the annual fee comes out to $250. That’s 25000 chase points straight up, less if you use their portal and redeem at 1.5x
To get 25k points you have to spend (average) about 700 a month in 3x categories like travel and restaurants, or more than that if you are in 2x or 1x categories. Generally, it’s pretty doable to come out ahead.
This is assuming you don’t use any of the other perks like peloton and doordash, Lyft reimbursement, 10x dining points etc.
One critical note: that’s what it takes to come out ahead vs no card. But the threshold is much higher compared to the CSP, which stilll gets you 3x on food just not travel, and is only $95.
For many people, you’ll net out more points with this. Plus, CSP sign up bonus is 100k points vs 50-75k points for CSR depending on your branch.
I was in the exact spot as you yesterday. Renewal dec 6, and had about 15k point balance. I earned 43k points last year, so mathematically worth it, but much less than I was earning while traveling. I’m also at the 4 yer mark which is when the cycle resets for chase and makes you elegible for sign on bonuses in their sapphire family. I called to downgrade to a chase freedom unlimited ($0 fee and you keep the same credit line amount). In about a week I’ll be signing up for the chase sapphire preferred for the 60k sign on bonus, or the cap 1 venture x (their competitor to the CSR, but only $95 after their travel credit AND had a 100k point sign on bonus right now). Idk how good the cap 1 travel portal is but might give it a shot
If you do this don’t forget to use your all of your CSR points (pay yourself back is easiest). They’re worth 1.5x in the portal. CSP’s are only worth 1.25x, and free chase cards are only 1x
I think the revamped CSP is better than CSR now.
Funny how times change
I called customer support and they said there is a 48 months wait starting from when you received your last promo points. For me it was about 2 months after I got CSR and spent set amount to receive the promo points.
How many points do you have stored up
Not much. Used most of it. Around 15k
You can use points to pay off the yearly fee...

I think it's a better travel card than Amex Plat now. I have both and I'm going to be downgrading the Amex.
