Is it appropriate to talk with your M and SM about your concern over layoffs? I want to talk to them about wanting to increase my workload and scope.

Sure not weird at all

As long as you make it all about you

Thanks for the feedback Karen. I’ll need you to #plsfix your sass thanks

I would frame the conversation around you wanting to support other initiatives more. Not your concerns of a lay-off. Everyone has that concern and I’m not sure how a conversation will help, benches will be slimmed. The best way to stay safe is get involved and take workload or be billable.

Completely agree-it’s something at the top of all our minds but unfortunately not something any of us have an answer for at this time

like

Just make yourself useful and let people know you have bandwidth and want to help. You won’t be without work. Framing it as a fear of being laid off just makes you look pathetic.

smart

Not weird at all. I’d in fact welcome any opportunity to have such a meaningful dialogue with members of the team.

like

Maybe your M and SM are worrying about lay-off too, remind them, you may be let go sooner.

Just make yourself busy. Ask for work, help out where you can. Never lead with your concern of “layoffs”, young grasshopper. You will look pretty pathetic.

Thanks 🐠

My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. I think I need to quit so I’m not fired for bad performance with a horrible reputation. Am I nuts and should I just wait til they let me go?

Does anyone think it’s weird that my firm is bending over backwards to try to keep a first year staff from leaving the firm after she was rated a 2 this year. But now she’s trying to leave and they keep trying to push her to stay saying she can be a partner in 8-9 years and laying it all out in detail. The issue is they laid off other staff (all but her) so maybe that’s it? Find it very odd.

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.
