Use a no transaction fee card and always pay in local currency, not dollars. Your bank will give you a much better exchange rate on your bill than some random shop who doesn’t care about you.
Ideally just use the credit card. Otherwise try to just go to an atm in country.
Depends on where you’re going and what you want to do. I usually just use my card, but I like to have some local currency for tips, shopping at local markets, transportation, excursions, etc. With that said, you can always just pull money out there if needed.

I use no FX fee credit cards wherever I can (charge in local currency) and withdraw cash when needed (use debit cards with atm fee rebate)
Don’t convert cash, you will always lose money. No fee cc is the way to go especially if you’re working towards a bonus. Use your own bank before you go to get cash or what I do is pull local currency from an atm but using a bank that doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee and refunds atm fees.
