I've been a solo for nearly 20 years and built a small firm from the ground up. Now my practice (5 lawyers plus support staff, total 13 people) is being eyed by a midsize firm. They want me to keep building what I've been doing, except with their resources behind me. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity, but I'm torn over giving up what I built.

Has anyone gone from solo (and a mildly successful solo doing super meaningful work) to a larger firm? I see a lot of posts going the other way.

Looking to transition out of Management Consulting and going into big tech in NYC. Ideally, I would love to go in as a PMM; however I’ve heard it’s very difficult to make that jump if you don’t have a degree in engineering or CS (I’m a liberal arts graduate and in the final year of a part-time mba). Should I look to apply as a program manager role since it’s more likely my consulting experience will apply to that and see if I can transition into a PMM role from there?

I have 4.3 YOE currently and I was offered Engr II - Full Stack position in VDSI. But after doing some research it seems Engr II is usually for YOE between 2 and 4. Is this correct? Will there be a problem for me if I take up this position with my YOE?
Since I am a lateral entry, I think promotion to Engr III also would take a lot of time.

Now I still am the site supervisor on projects but I’m also doing all the construction manger duties on the project as well. Essentially 2 jobs for one salary. Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Question for my friend at KPMG. Her MDs and Partners have been directing her to eat her hours. If she charges over 45 hours she will get emails from management and when she charges over 65 she got a call from a PPMD. I work at deloitte and have never been told to do this and thought it honestly was illegal. Thoughts? It doesn’t seem right that she’s having to eat those hours and feel scared when she’s working til 10/12 every night.
