As a landlord, what else would you like us to do? 48 hours is more than enough notice for you to make arrangements to be elsewhere. The alternative is letting maintenance issues go unfixed, then I have extremely expensive repairs to make and you have an unlivable housing situation.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to get contractors to do work, or confirm times? Yes, I 10000% believe the landlord did not know until 48 hours in advance when the work would be done. Contractors will call you and say I can come over right now or 6 weeks from now, so you take what you can get. I had to get a whole furnace and AC unit replaced (~8 hours of work with 3 guys) and I didn’t know until the day before they were coming.
Also, literally who cares. We’re acting like it’s an incredible hardship for a person to find an alternative spot to work from for a few hours.
It’s within their right to do maintenance with notice. How much notice did they actually give you?
I mean yeah they definitely could have given a longer heads up since it was probably scheduled for awhile. But they don’t legally have to
Not illegal if they give you notice.

For sure. But I am moving out so it’s lame they made me freeze for many years, then chose to schedule it weeks before my departure on a cold rainy day.
Tenants complaining about LLs fixing/improving the unit is new to me… can’t win 🤪 48 hours is plenty of time to make other arrangements. Go to a coffee shop or coworking space for a few hours.

Small room. Lots of breakables and a dog. So I stayed.
I had AI write you a little haiku:
Cold wind fills my home,
Hammered hours steal my quiet—
Fumes greet the dawn sick.

Yes! There were fumes all night. My eyeball was popping out.
Lmao got 2 days notice to get new windows and you’re complaining? Why didn’t you go to Starbucks or anywhere else? Did you really just stay in the apartment while they worked? Why?

Do you not want new window?
It’s not illegal even with no notice, and 48 hours is a fine courtesy notice.
Usually no heat is considered “emergency” in the winter months, and they have to prioritize it above all. My old landlord used to show up within an hour or two for “emergency “ items.
lol at OP getting destroyed
It’s wild to me that renters somehow think they are immune to reality. Things in houses have to be fixed sometimes, it’s a fact of life. You’re lucky you had notice at all, can’t imagine how you would react if something broke unexpectedly and you had to witness immediate repairs🤣
These responses are hilarious. “No notice is required” and “48 hours is more than enough.”
Guys, I know you all have Google. The law in Chicago is very simply laid out in the CRLTO: notice IS required absent an emergency, which the OP has given no indication of, and 48 hours is the MINIMUM notice that’s allowed. So the OP’s landlord appears compliant, but only barely.
“48 hours is more than enough notice for you to make arrangements to be elsewhere” - did you just purposely leave out the part of the statement that makes your argument irrelevant? I did not say anything about the legality of 48 hours, just that 2 whole days is more than enough time to find a Starbucks or park bench or literally anywhere else to be for a couple hours.

The comments here really reveal what it takes to be a landlord here: money. And that is literally it.
Voluntarily investing in new windows which will keep your home warmer and drier, while saving you money on utilities. Oh my the greed! Can’t wait for you to get away from this money grubbing landlord.
