I’ve reached out to recruiters on Linkedin before for interviews.
“Hello, hope all is well. Reaching out as an applicant for the open position(s) [insert position title]. I believe I’m a fit because of [insert concise summary].
What’s your availability over the next 2 weeks for a 15min discussion to discuss how I can positively impact your org?”
Resulted in an interview 8/10 times. You’re also able to gauge culture of the org to a degree by how they respond. Good luck!
I only reached out to mutual connections who were current employees with the purpose of getting in touch with the right recruiter. “Do you know the right recruiter for this position or can you connect me with someone from HR who would know the right contact?”
Think I sent everything in the connect msg. Just made sure the first couple of lines were interesting enough to catch their attention

Well I usually reach out to people that I have some connection with (same previous employer, alma matter, etc. ) and request for an informational interview. If the interview goes well and the person seems someone who would be willing to refer, I request the person to refer.

Recruiters don’t refer, they recruit. But if your looking, definitely reach out - it’s making their job easier! Ask if they’re hiring for people with your background and tell them why you’re interested, and if there’s a fit ask for a call to discuss.

I get messages from recruiters ALL THE TIME on linked in. I always tell them I’m not looking now but I’d love to add them to my network so I can reach out if and when I am. They always accept.
