I came from post MBA consulting to PE as associate. First year comp was flat. Now on 3rd year and slightly above where I would have been on cash comp - much higher if you factor in carry. It’s not a no brainer to move from a comp perspective and more a question of what you’re looking for.

Didn’t get an MBA - just got the post MBA promotion. I’d say in general yes it’s very hard to make the jump without pre MBA PE experience.

PE comp is always calculated as base + bonus. Then throw in any additional upside (carry, coin vest) as an option upside that you don’t factor in yet. Most reputable funds will pay at least the total comp of a consulting firm (~200k) through base and bonus. Majority pay more

It should exceed consulting every step of the way, with the gap widening as you move up.
You keep saying base and I think the confusion on your end is that total comp in consulting and PE is always base + bonus. For example at BCG the split is ~170 + 30 = 200K. In PE, my split is 130 + 170 = 300K. So yes my “base” is lower, but it’s a meaningless comparison as total comp is 50% more
If your reason for doing PE is short-term cool related, your thinking about it all wrong. You might as well do IB if that’s the case
Pivoted to UMM pe after post mba promotion in consulting and took a base hit but TC is higher. So yes
Of course base might be less. That should not be an issue
