I had interviewed with Deloitte UK consulting in June/July and was called by the HR team by the end of July that the interviews were positive and they're sending for approval for an offer to be rolled out. I was called back later in September and told that the role is on hold due to a hiring freeze. Is anyone else in this situation and have you'll heard back from the HR team post that

Neither is safe.
You can ask people all you want for their opinion here but like someone mentioned earlier, you have to answer this yourself and be happy with the decision you made. Think about opportunity cost and choose where you’d thing you grow more or make of an impact. All depends on what you want
By nature, start-ups are 100% safe. Jump right in!
If they weren't safe, they would be called shut-downs, wouldn't they?
Is it safe to eat a papaya? Papaya vs dragon fruit?
Papaya is more dangerous. Seeds are bigger
Is growth or safety more important to you? Growth, startup. Safety, Deloitte
@EY2 Absolutely, that also means you’re able to make a lot of process improvements/create an immediate impact which I’ve enjoyed - especially as an ex-consultant
Could always come back. Just don’t burn bridge. I’m old so… Yolo!
Also, see about getting equity, that tells them you’re in it for the long haul and willing to put in the time/effort and invest when and where needed.
Sometimes you need a bold decision, you follow you heart 😄. I did it twice and pretty happy with what I’m having rn.
I just joined at a startup in January! It’s sooo interesting.
I joined a start up and it was the best decision I ever made. It’s a bit unsettling because of the lack of security but if you true believe in the business model (and have visibility to it) then I would encourage it
Joining a startup can be great! Especially if they’re into their series A & B funding rounds where they’re able to grow. Get in early. You end up wearing “multiple hats” and can move up or start an entire department. You can always go back into consulting.
If you believe in the start-up’s product/service and you get equity, why not
Join the startup.
There is a degree of safety to it, and there is vast upside potential you wouldn’t get from consulting.
Worst case scenario, return to consulting.
How is a start up experience perceived at consulting? For example, if someone leaves consulting for a biotech (e.g. series A) and the company didn’t have a successful exit, how does it look like on the resume?
Where do I look for startup jobs?

Different perspective here, ask yourself the question: could you really see yourself as a PPMD? If not what are your end stage career goals and what experiences and skills enable that role. Also think about the logical inflection points that would occur throughout your career + your personal risk tolerance.
Once you have that in mind you can prioritize opportunities that challenge you the most and fit best with your goals. Basically build out a decision tree and roadmap for yourself 😂
I left consulting to join a startup. Calculated risk for sure.
Only you can and should decide
Start-up is a broad, very broad word. Where are they in their incubation? Are they in Series-B or above in funding, do they have meaningful sales and pipeline, is the exit plan (public or acquisition) in the next couple of years? All of those things will help you make the right decision. Work wise you'll learn a lot more and be hands-on at a Start up that will help accelerate your career in the startup world. Deloitte is a large organization and the nature of what you end up doing will depend on what's available when you join.
If you join the startup, keep an eye on the founder! if the individual starts partying too much or engaging in questionable activities, after some good funding rounds, time to leave, invent some BS to see if you get some $$$ for your vested shares and bounce!
totally depends on what you looking for. Deloitte or any other big 4 gives you a good exposure, stability structure. Startup could possibly offer you more money, position esops, but no stability and you would be wearing many hats. You would learn a lot on both places. So it is upto you. i reality the choice should be which ever gives you better project and technology
