Is it weird to use the same recruiter who placed you at a firm to leave?

If you liked the recruiter, use them again. If any reason they feel there’s a conflict, they’ll tell you

like

Not at all

like

They care only about their placement fee lol

like

Firm is unlikely to care. If you are looking to move again, there’s a solid chance the firm will be okay with you leaving

like

No. Use a recruiter you know and trust (or me).

likefunny

There is generally no conflict so long as they aren't soliciting you to move. But their relationship with the firm is their problem so they'll let you know if they have an issue with it. My general approach is to do what I can to help a placed candidate be successful at their firm, but if I know they are going to leave with or without me I generally won't bow out.

like

Nope! They’ll love you for the repeat business

No, as long as you’ve been there at least a year. Otherwise they might be annoyed at losing their full fee for your original placement.

When BigLaw attorneys interview students, how soon afterward do they give feedback? What kind of feedback do you give as an interviewer at your firm (e.g. qualitative, quantitative, thumbs up, thumbs down, veto)? Does everyone get in a room or do you just submit the forms to one hiring partner, and/or to a black box? If you don't click with the student, what would make you still give them a thumbs up? Sorry if my questions are a little neurotic... !

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?
