Wow that really is amazing comp for yoe. I have the same predicament and background for much less TC. I'm just looking at each day as a chance to learn something new until I can find a way to apply it more impactfully on my terms.
Really? Embarrassing to say but I make 65k after tax with 10 years of experience with 4 certifications in CA. And a family of 3 that depends on me.
Trust me, you are very good.
What's your pre-tax salary?
Ahhh yes the daily/weekly 4 YOE 300K comp post on fishbowl
Keep em coming!
Amazing salary and people with lots of experience still struggle to get these numbers. Enjoy
Folks are looking at pay but it highly depends on geo. I highly doubt a low cost of living area will pay that amount for those years of experience. As someone else said the larger question is how much are you REALLY working. I will go against the grain and say your mental health is important. This is not to say quit your job BUT you have to make the decision to be more intentional with your time and set boundaries. There are certain times of the day or days of the week I will intentionally block off just so folks are not jamming my calendar with silly meetings that can wait, for example. They are paying you to do a job, yes, but you have also earned benefits they provide so please don’t be that person who never takes vacation for example or is afraid to take sick leave when needed.
I second this AC1. And I’ll add that you have to assess what your life goals and priorities are then plan around those if you want sustainable happiness with your career. What’s your lifestyle and how much of it are you willing to compromise should you take a lower salary, but more fulfilling gig? What other fields are you interested in and what do they pay? Can that pay cover your preferred lifestyle? If not, is there a way you can set a specific timeframe at the current job that will allow you to supplement your salary with smart investments? And most importantly, what truly makes you happy/ fulfilled? Everyone can say “you’re lucky to make so much” but, if you’re so miserable you can’t be happy with yourself, it isn’t worth it long-term, so set a goal to make what you need to get out and not be so broke and miserable later that you end up hating/resenting the other career too.
How many hours do you work. That’s the real question
Ah yes your comp is in fact “very decent”
Presumably IB analyst working over 80 hours during busy times?
Most people couldn’t handle this longer term.
I think the question would be whether you see a near term path to a director role with even higher pay and more stable hours (at least more control over them)
If not, then probably look for that exit opportunity!
They give you money though. But maybe not enough.
I know many with 15 YOE but make less than 130k base. As a level 7.
Depends how many hours do you work? What do you do?
The broader job market is not great right now—comp figures on job postings feel maybe 15-20% lower than they were a couple years ago. If you need a break from work and are ok with $600K in opportunity cost and $200K of out of pocket costs, maybe look into an MBA?
Given the new normal, what is the payback period for a T50-T100 MBA?
What do you do for work? How many hours of work every day?
Wait! You make that much as a L10 or L9?
Okay
Also where do you work because I need to go there 🥴
Save as much as you can and retire early my guy
Work Can be fulfilling and Can make you feel value and contribution to society. But it’s okay for hobbies and relationships and friends and family and pets and kids and experiences and memories and cool toys to be our why we do the work part. It’s okay that not everyone’s passion living and breathing soul life is at work stuff. If it is, maybe you’re lucky.
Take some time off or a long vacation or explore new options but that is a great TC even for someone with 10 YoE
