Well, technically, yes, it would be a horrible thing to do to your firm however, if your firm was gonna fire you, they wouldn’t care when they did it or how to affect your life so if you have a better opportunity or your firm is just horrible to work for probably shouldn’t feel too guilty about it
I was looking to leave last year during the tax season and decided against it because I felt bad for potentially screwing them over... They let me go after the tax season was over. Wish I would've gotten out when I was initially looking.
Not at all. Leave whenever is best for YOU. don’t worry about your team or company. We do accounting, we don’t save lives.
This exactly.
Inconvenient? Sure, but if it's the best move for you, then there's no question about it. If you're jeopardizing a reference you badly need or something, that's different. But otherwise, it's not your responsibility. Your responsibility is to take care of yourself.
It's a tough question. If your firm was treating you right, you probably wouldn't be looking for another opportunity. On the other hand, it's tough to find an accounting or tax prep firm that doesn't expect superhuman efforts during tax season.
Yeah, but do what’s best for you
No because if they want to let you go now they will wait until the busy season ia over to do it
You have to leave whenever you see fit for your career
I am leaving my current employer in the middle of a audit software implementation because they screw me over a promotion and salary adjustment
Only if its a small firm with few employees. Big 4? There should be enough bodies in the 'talent' pool to survive your departure.
Whatever u say Mighty Emperor
Who should have been fired was the mail room clerk who left work exactly at 5pm on January 31 while everyone was scrambling to finish stuffing w-2s and 1099s into envelopes. Luckily, there was someone (me) who knew how to operate the postage machine and take the newly-stamped envelopes to the post office. And I was still persona non grata, because I didn't attend business school to learn how to prepare tax returns.

Personally, I don't think this is their problem. It's not their job to wait for y'all to be done mailing things. Their shift ends at 5pm - it's on you to plan better next year.
If they treated you well than that is sort of cruel. No matter what give them a notice, You may need them later. Also if you are going to leave now is the time to get a letter of recomendation.
